How Sport Builds Confident Children
Gymnastics and trampolining classes in Surrey - Guildford & Egham.
Flair Gym Clubs run weekly gymnastics and trampoline classes for all ages in Guildford and Egham, Surrey. We coach skills, obviously. But our coaching teams do so much more than that…
Flair coaches see those nervous first steps into the gym. The tight grip on a parent’s hand. The child who hangs back at the edge of the group, quietly watching before they are ready to join in.
We know they’ll be okay, and even love the class. So it feels great that we also get to see what happens when that same child begins to trust the space, the coaches and most importantly, themselves.
CREATING CONFIDENCE:
Creating safe, welcoming gymnastics and trampolining classes where children genuinely enjoy sport is what we are known for across Surrey. Flair coaches know that building confidence isn’t about being the most flexible or the fastest, and it’s not about medals or moving up the quickest.
It’s about supporting members through those seemingly scary moments and taking small steps; it’s about trying even when you feel a little bit nervous. That’s what helps confidence grow when it comes to trampolining and gymnastics.
When a child attempts something new and realises they managed it, when they push through a wobble and land a skill because they’e keps trying – that’s what builds confidence.
Practice and trying again, and again, strengthen their trust in themselves and show them that it takes time to get better at something.
SUPPORTING CONFIDENCE
Our coaches support this by making sure all members hear “Good effort, let’s go again,” instead of feeling like they haven’t tried hard enough or they can’t do something.
Gymnastics and trampolining are powerful because they naturally teach children that progress takes time. You can’t rush balance or force coordination. You have to go through the foundations, and return to them again and again.
At Flair, children learn patience without even realising it. They learn that effort leads somewhere, and that they need to trust the process and their coaches.
Flair coaches know we’re not just teaching skills. We are teaching children how to respond when something feels hard. We help our members understand that mistakes are part of learning, not something to be embarrassed about.
And that moment, when a child lands a jump after weeks of practice, well, the pride on their face is a joy to witness. Landing that skill represents their resilience, which also carries far beyond their gymnastics and trampoline classes.
NURTURING CONFIDENCE
Over the years, we’ve watched children who doubted themselves grow into teenagers who lead warm-ups, support younger members and speak with confidence – they’re even coaching your children right now!
DID YOU KNOW… Half of the Flair coaching team used to be members at Flair! They stayed on to coach because they really believe in what Flair can do.
Progress doesn’t happen by accident. It happens in environments where children feel safe, supported and seen. That is why Flair Gym Clubs prioritise coaching styles that build confidence.
Every Flair class, whether gymnastics or trampolining, is structured to challenge children appropriately, celebrate their effort and help them progress at their own pace. This structure has been carefully curated and perfected since we opened in 1998!
We care about skills, of course. But we care even more about how children leave the session feeling. If they walk out a little taller than when they arrived, if they are proud of themselves for trying.
Confident children don’t just perform better in sport. They step into life differently. And that’s why we make sure our classes focus on building confidence, not just learning skills.
