I take the hiring of staff very seriously. This includes everyone from the coaching team through to service and sales. Finding the right people who understand and care about our core values and who can deliver what is expected of them each and every time is vital. After all we are looking after your most precious belongings, your children…
I am very lucky to have a fantastic team of people around me. We have an awesome coaching team and some of our team have been with us for a very long time. Take Lead Coach at Club Spectrum, Sam Archer, for example. She has been with us for 17 years now. I sat down with Sam recently and found out a bit more about what makes her tick. Here’s what I found out…
SAM ARCHER – LEAD COACH
So Sam, how did you find out about or first get into coaching at Flair? “I came to Flair to do my practical hours for my gymnastics qualification and have never looked back.”
Tell us about your role at Flair. “I first started as a coach at Kenyngton Manor School in Sunbury, the very first Flair club. I am Lead Coach at Club Spectrum, I run our special educational needs programme and I am the trampolining party planner.”
CONTINUAL STAFF TRAINING AT FLAIR UNIVERSITY
What are your hobbies? “Trampolining, running, watching sporting events and spending time with family and friends.”
TRAMPOLINE CLASSES
Have you done gymnastics as a child or an adult? “I started trampolining when I was 8 years old and continued trampolining classes right through to adulthood. I still enjoy a bounce! I think it’s important to find a sport that you really enjoy doing as a child that helps you create healthy habits for life.”
Are you married? “Yes. My husband is Matt and we have a daughter called Rose who is 4 years old. I’m really excited that my daughter is now old enough to take part in gymnastics classes. I hope she loves it as much as I did when I was her age.”

FLAIR INVITATIONAL EVENT
What has been your biggest challenge since working with Flair? “My biggest challenge has been being the operational manager for the Flair Invitational Events and the Flair Championships. There are so many different components that you need to make happen when you are organising an event. It’s very rewarding when you see everything come together on the big day. I’m very much looking forward to The Flair Championships this year on the 1st December.”
I know you are involved in teaching the children their competition routines. Do you have a top tip for helping the students to memorise their routines? “Yes. I find the best way to remember a routine is to break it down into small sections and keep adding moves until the routine is complete. ‘PLUS ONE’ is an effective learning tool to ensure the routine is performed to the best standard whilst not overloading the student with a sometimes complex string of moves.”
MEMORISING ROUTINES
Would you like your daughter to follow in your gymnastics footsteps? “Yes, I hope she does. I’d like her to build her confidence through gymnastics, make new like-minded friends and have lots of fun at class, just like I did when I was a child.”
THUMBS UP FROM ROSE!
