How to create confident coaches to help build confident kids

Last week we had a Flair Necessities Training Day for all our staff. This is a special onboarding day for every single member of the team.

ME AND FREDDIE FLAIR BEAR

I run the day and it’s a great opportunity for everyone to learn about the history and heritage of the company. They get to hear about how things started in 1998, when I was just 21 years old, how we did things right at the beginning all the way through to how we do things now. They hear about how important my mum was at that time as she was one of the very first gymnastics coaches!

MY SPECIAL MUM

We talk about everything from our events, our award syllabus through to our student training diaries. We discuss our common purpose which is ‘Building Confident Kids’ and we talk about our core values so that everybody understands them and why they are so important to us here at Flair.

A large part of the day is spent introducing Freddie Flair Bear, the confidence bear and his fantastic friends the Tumble Teddies. If the staff members do well they go on to graduate at the end of the day and there is an award ceremony where awards are presented to everyone by myself and Freddie Flair Bear. This is called the ‘Welcome to the Flair Family’ award.

INSPIRING AMBITIOUS YOUNG COACHES LIKE JENNA

It’s a great chance for all the coaches to meet each other and to meet the people who work behind the scenes too. The young assistant coaches learn a lot from the day as they learn from our more experienced coaches as well as myself. Some of the awesome coaching team have been with us for over 15 years! This year will be our 19th birthday!

NICK RUDDOCK AND ME

Nick Ruddock was one of our first ever Flair coaches and he is now world renowned having coached medal winning gymnasts such as Amy Tinkler, and Becky and Ellie Downie. We were fortunate to have him in attendance at our Flair Necessities Training Day and he was really impressed with how we invest in the professional development of our coaches and support them in delivering excellent and world class service to each and every Flair member during their sporting journey at our clubs. He brought his partner Leonni along too. Leonni has choreographed floor routines for Olympic gymnasts and works alongside Nick. Nick is one of our trusted advisers and works closely with us in the development of our coach training programme.

LEONNI AND NICK

It’s great to have the Flair family all under one roof sharing stories about coaching in the gym and about the clubs but also talking about the future and our vision of having clubs all across the UK so that we can continue to build confident kids. But we don’t just want to build confident kids, we want confident coaches who are able to build children’s confidence through gymnastics. It’s all about bringing out their confidence so that they are able to bring out the children’s confidence so that we can help the families that we are serving.

If you would like to find out more about our clubs why not come along for a Trial Class.
