The World Champion Acrobat Mum Who Brings Her Son To Flair!

I am very excited to tell you that one of our Flair mums was a World Champion Acrobat winning Gold and Silver Medals in 1997 at the World Championships. I interviewed Emily Davies (nee Emily Crocker), mum of Flair Spectrum club member Huxley, to find out more…

FLAIR MUM EMILY DAVIES

Hello Emily. Tell us about your family?
“My husband is Phil and we have two boys, Lincoln aged 8 and Huxley aged 5.”

What are your children’s hobbies?
“Huxley goes to Flair at Club Spectrum on a Wednesday and absolutely loves it and he gets very excited about showing us his new skills. He also does swimming and his cousin Lewis teaches him horse riding. Lincoln is a keen footballer for Guildford Saints and is also about to take part in his first triathlon.”

If you would like to become part of our Flair family why not book your child onto one of our Tumble Camps at a gymnastics club in Surrey this summer. GO TO >> www.GymnasticsCamp.co.uk

CLUB MEMBER HUXLEY

We love pets here at Flair. Do you have any pets?
“We have a cat called Jay Jay and a Cavapoochon puppy named Jessie which keeps us very busy.”

How did you find out about Flair?
“I’ve known Richard (Flair Founder & CEO) since the 1990s when we used to train together doing gymnastics. I felt confident letting Huxley go to Flair as I knew the gym club would be run brilliantly with Richard at the helm.”

What are your hobbies?
“Running, dog walking and trying out new recipes on my sister.”

How old were you when you started gymnastics and acro?
“I was 8 years old when I first tried gymnastics and 9 when I moved onto acro.”

How many hours a week were you training when you were competing?
“I would train for about 25 hours a week before and after school, so there were a lot of early mornings and late nights!”

EMILY’S ACROBATIC TRIO

What is your favourite sports related film that inspires you and why?
“It has to be ‘Nadia.’ Every gymnast has watched that film many times and can quote most of the lines. For example: ‘Hard work has made it easy. That is my secret. That is why I win.’ says Nadia Comaneci (World Olympic Champion).”

Who is your favourite gymnast that inspires you and why?
“I love watching Svetlana Khorkina as she is so graceful and has such beautiful lines. For acrobatics inspiration I always aspired to Evgeny Marchenko and Natalia Redkova.”

Why would you encourage children to take up the sport of gymnastics?
“I think gymnastics is a great sport for all children to get involved in whatever their level as it helps to grow their confidence, gives them dedication and motivation and they will make lots of new friends.”

Where do you work now?
“I am a network interface analyst for Arrow Business Communications.”

Can you tell us more about what it was like to be a world champion gold medal winning acrobat?
“I was very lucky to have a long acrobatics career, starting as a women’s pair top and winning the Junior Worlds in 1993.

Then working with my acrobatics partner Neil Griffiths and winning World Medals in the 1995 and 1997 World Championships. The pinnacle for us was winning a World Championship Gold and Silver in Manchester in 1997 in front of a home ground. It was a very special moment seeing the National Flag raised! We prided ourselves on our artistry and loved to dance!

After this I worked in a trio and was lucky enough to win more World Medals. I travelled all over the world including Japan, America and Russia and got to experience different cultures and make friends that I would never have met without acrobatics.”
